China will hold annual meetings of its top legislative and political advisory bodies in March next year, the official News Agency reported Saturday.
The National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature, will start its annual session on 5th March 2021 in Beijing.
The National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country’s top political advisory body, will begin its annual session on 4th March 2021.
The NPC, China’s parliament, usually sits for at least 10 days. The CPPCC, an advisory body to the parliament, runs in parallel. Both the meetings are commonly known as “Two Sessions”.
The
decision was made by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) on Saturday, and the proposed agenda includes reviewing a government work report and a draft of the 14th Five-Year Plan, China’s blueprint for economic and social development.
During the annual NPC meeting, the world’s second-largest economy usually sets its annual economic targets, including the one for GDP growth, which are closely watched by politicians and economists around the globe.
The gathering of the National People’s Congress typically takes place in early March in Beijing but in 2020, it was delayed to May due to the coronavirus outbreak.
