U.S. Senator Cory Booker has made history, delivering the longest continuous speech in Senate history, an astonishing 25 hours and 5 minutes. The New Jersey Democrat took the floor at 7 PM on Monday and spoke uninterrupted until after 8 PM the following day, calling attention to what he described as a crisis in American democracy under President Donald Trump.

Booker

shattered the previous record of 24 hours and 18 minutes, set in 1957 by segregationist Senator Strom Thurmond in a failed attempt to block the Civil Rights Act. Unlike Thurmond, who fought against progress, Booker used his marathon speech to warn against the growing consolidation of power and rally support for democratic institutions.
