In the United States, the death toll from Hurricane Helene has risen to 33 in the southeastern part of the country as heavy flooding affected communities and emergency responders began large-scale rescue operations. Although the hurricane has weakened to a tropical storm and eventually a tropical depression, it continues to cause damage across multiple states, leaving more than four million homes and businesses without
power.
Hurricane Helene struck Florida’s Big Bend region as a powerful Category 4 hurricane on Thursday, creating a chaotic scene with overturned boats, fallen trees, submerged cars, and flooded streets. Earlier, US President Joe Biden approved emergency declarations in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama before Hurricane Helene made landfall.
