The number of dengue cases reported from Bangladesh this year has crossed 21,000. In 24 hours preceding Friday morning, close to 1000 patients reported for dengue treatment in Dhaka.

According to the government, 14 deaths have occurred so far due to Dengue but the actual figures could be much higher going by the reports coming from various parts of the country.

Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday demanded that the

government should declare a public health emergency as Dengue has spread all over the country. He also criticised the government for failing to curb the dengue outbreak in Bangladesh.

The High Court on Thursday directed the two city corporations in Dhaka to import effective insecticides to eliminate mosquitoes from the capital. The Dhaka City corporations said the insecticide will be imported in a day or two for testing before it is used in the city on a large scale.
