A court in Dominica has restrained authorities from removing fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi from the Caribbean island country till further orders. He is wanted in India in connection with 13,500 crore rupees Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case. The court extended the injunction on removing Choksi from Dominica till the next hearing of his application.

The next hearing of the

case is scheduled for June 2. The court’s order came on a habeas corpus plea filed by Choksi’s lawyers. Choksi, an accused in the PNB loan fraud case along with his nephew Nirav Modi, has been residing in Antigua and Barbuda since January 4, 2018. The CBI and ED, which have filed separate chargesheets in the case, are trying for the extradition of Choksi.
