External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Tuesday called on Philippines President Bongbong Marcos at Manila. Dr Jaishankar conveyed the greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Philippines President. In a social media post, the External Affairs Minister said Mr Marcos’ guidance for taking India-Philippines to new areas will strengthen collaboration between the two democracies.
Dr Jaishankar also visited Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paheredar during its port call to Manila. He said his visit and the ship’s presence signifies the deepening bilateral relations between the two nations. He added that civilizational imprint of India’s long and distinguished Indian maritime tradition is still visible in this region.
The External Affairs Minister said the Act East policy and Indo-Pacific vision will continue to give it a more contemporary form.
Dr Jaishankar also held a meeting with Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro and discussed strengthening India-Philippines defense partnership, and the convergences in the Indo-Pacific. He said he looks forward to enhancing capabilities, intensifying exchanges and closer contacts.
The External Affairs Minister concluded his Manila visit by meeting National Security Adviser Eduardo Año and Department Of Information And Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy. They had engaging conversation about technology advancements and contemporary challenges.
