A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocked Tarapaca, a region in northern Chile yesterday. According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake's focus was at a depth of 118 kilometers and was located 37 km north-east of Calama
city.
The Chilean Navy's Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service said that the earthquake's characteristics did not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami on the Chilean coast.
