A 50-year-old Emirati man has been charged at a Dubai court after he allegedly offered a Dh15,000 bribe to an officer at the Hatta border point to help an Indian wanted man exit the border to Oman without stamping his passport.
The Indian man was wanted in connection with some financial cases in Dubai.
The defendant has also been accused at the Court of First Instance of trying to help the wanted man exit the country illegally. The Indian man, who is currently at large, has been charged in absentia with aiding and abetting the other accused in the bribery crime. He has also been accused of trying to sneak out of the country illegally without having his passport stamped by the on-duty officer with the exit seal.
The alleged incident took place on March 21 last year. A police captain said during the public prosecution investigation that he received a phone call from the officer on that day, informing

him about the first defendant.
The captain instructed the officer to deal with him in such a way that the first accused would believe he was okay with his offer. "I told him to let that accused bring the Indian man to the checkpoint so we could nab him," the police captain told the investigating prosecutor. "We also coordinated with the criminal investigation department officers at the Hatta police station for arresting the duo."
The officer went to the exit section with the wanted man on March 23 last year. "The officer said he picked him up following a conversation with the Emirati defendant. An Indian man who dropped him was also arrested.
"It turned out the second accused was wanted by the Bur Dubai and Al Muraqqabat police stations. The men involved in offering the Dh15,000 bribe money were referred to the Hatta police station for the necessary legal action," the captain said during investigation.
