Minister Sushma Swaraj has said the entire Indian leadership remained steadfast
in its commitment to the Palestinian cause. Ms Swaraj, who is on her first two
days visit to West Asia said, India's empathy with the Palestinian cause and friendship
with its people is undiluted. While inaugurating the India-Palestine Digital
learning and Innovation centre at Al Quds University Yesterday in Ramallah she
said, the Indian government is working for closer political interaction, deeper
economic and academic engagement with Palestine. She also outlined three core
tenets of India’s approach to Palestine which are solidarity with
Palestinian
people, support to the Palestinian cause and support to nation-building and
capacity-building efforts.
Ms. Swaraj also held talks with her Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Maliki and later in the day she called on President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank town of Ramallah. The Minister also laid a wreath at the mausoleum of iconic Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. After her engagements in Palestine, Ms Swaraj proceeded to Israel where she will meet the top Israeli leadership.
