An ex-US Olympic gymnastics team doctor, Larry Nassar has been sentenced to 40 to 175 years after testimony from nearly 160 of his victims.Nassar pleaded guilty to 10 counts of sexual assault against girls and young women, including Olympians. Dismissing Nassar's attempted apology as insincere, Ingham County Circuit Court Judge, Rosemarie Aquilina yesterday said he would be in darkness the rest of his life.
The 54-year-old
had already been sentenced to 60 years for possession of child pornography. In extraordinary scenes over the past week, around 160 women appeared in court or testified anonymously to the emotional pain they continue to experience because of the sexual abuse by Nassar.
Meanwhile, the US Olympic Committee (USOC) announced that it would hold an independent investigation into the sex abuse scandal.
