Construction on the anticipated Expo 2020 Dubai is on track, according to The Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau.
Set to open its doors in four years, works expected to be completed by the end of 2016 include completion of excavation of the basement for the three thematic districts, Gulf News reported.
Construction on the thematic districts will begin in 2017 while Infrastructure activities, including work on the media centre, VIP facilities and other operational areas will be completed by 2018, said the Bureau.
All infrastructure work is expected to
be completed by October 2019.
Najeeb Al Ali, executive director of Expo 2020, said last month: “We have an overall master plan and we are well into our initial phases … and we are going as per the initial plan. Everything is on track with no delays.”
The Dubai Bureau said it plans to repurpose over 80% of the Expo site – or what is calls legacy phase – once the event wraps up in 2021, turning it into an ecosystem connecting businesses in multiple sectors including transport, logistics, travel and tourism, real estate, and education.
