US President-elect Donald Trump has
said that he will simultaneously repeal and replace the signature health care
programme of outgoing President Barack Obama. Addressing his first press
conference in six months, Mr Trump alleged that Obamacare is a complete and
total disaster.
He said pending negotiations with the Mexican government, his administration
will immediately move ahead with its plan to construct a wall along the
southern border to keep out illegal migrants and Mexico will reimburse it. Mr
Trump said Vice President-elect Mike Pence is leading an effort to get final
approvals through various agencies and through Congress for the wall to begin.
But Mexico has said it will never pay for the wall.
Claiming that the US is least prepared in defending its cyber assets resulting
in various countries, including Russia
and China, Mr Trump vowed to come out
with a major anti-hacking plan within 90 days after he assumes office on
January 20. Responding to a series of questions on cyber hacking, in particular
those from Russia, Mr Trump claimed, Moscow will have far greater respect for the
US when he is leading it. He asserted that he will be the greatest jobs
producer that God ever created as the President-elect highlighted the new jobs
he has been able to bring back to the country through private firms.
Mr Trump said he declined a business deal worth 2 billion US dollars in Dubai
even though he is not obliged to do so as president. He said he has formally
handed over complete control of his business empire to his two sons and they
won't discuss its operations with him, in a move to avoid conflicts of interest
once he assumes the office.
