Flights cancelled at Beirut’s International Airport amid Israel-Hezbollah tensions

In Lebanon’s capital, Beirut’s International Airport was gripped with confusion and chaos for the third day in a row yesterday as an Israeli air strike targeted a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut’s southern suburbs late last night. Crowds of travellers were stranded at the airport as airlines cancelled their flights on the back of Saturday’s attacks on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and Israeli retaliation. Tel Aviv is blaming the Lebanese paramilitary group Hezbollah for the attacks,



which killed 12 people. Hezbollah has denied the blame.

 

German airline group Lufthansa said, it would suspend all flights to Beirut until 5 August, which was followed by a similar move from Air France and its subsidiary Transavia, citing the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon. Yesterday, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Greece’s Aegean Airlines, and Germany’s Condor announced cancellations of their flights.
