In Malaysia, flooding has displaced thousands of people across several states. According to the country’s social welfare department, the worst affected was Kedah state with around eight thousand people being housed in 41 flood relief centres, . Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced three million dollars in aid for victims in Kedah state following a visit to the affected areas late on Saturday.
Kubang Pasu is the second worst
affected district with around two thousand evacuees in 11 relief centres, followed by Pendang with over one thousand evacuees in eight relief centres, and Pokok Sena with around nine hundred evacuees in five relief centres. Earlier, the Meteorological Department had warned of heavy continuous rain as the Southwest monsoon season is underway with bad weather expected to persist through September.
