The Dhaka High Court has granted a four-month interim bail to former Prime Minister and opposition BNP Chief Khaleda Zia in a corruption case. 

A court official said, the bench considered Ms Zia's age factor as one of the reasons for granting the bail.The official said, authorities have also been asked to prepare arguments on the BNP Chief's appeal against the conviction and



imprisonment.

The 72-year old former Prime Minister was sentenced to five years in jail on the 8th of last month in connection with the embezzlement of around 250,000 US dollars in foreign donations meant for the Zia Orphanage Trust.

The verdict shook the country's political scenario ahead of this year's general elections.
