Former Barcelona and Brazilian footballer Dani Alves has been convicted of raping a woman and sentenced to four and a half years in prison on Thursday. A court in Spain found him guilty of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022.
The Court also ordered Alves to pay 1,50,000 euros to the victim. The 40-year-old, who is one of the
most decorated footballers in history, denied sexually assaulting the woman. His lawyer had asked for his acquittal and said she would appeal against the verdict.
In a statement, the court said there was evidence other than the victim's testimony that proved that she had been raped.
