Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen sentenced to three years in prison

US President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen has been given a three-year prison sentence. Cohen admitted lying to the Congress, campaign finance violations and tax evasion. In a New York court, 52-year old Cohen blamed his crimes on Mr Trump. The disgraced attorney told Judge William Pauley yesterday that Mr Trump had caused him to "follow a path of darkness rather than



light".

Mr. Cohen gave an emotional apology to the court for his involvement in a hush-money scandal to silence two women who said they had affairs with Mr Trump to protect his chances before the 2016 election. Cohen is the first member of Mr Trump's inner circle to be jailed over the special counsel's inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election
