French President Emmanuel Macron has cautioned US President Donald Trump against the withdrawal of American troops from northern Syria. In a telephone call with US President, Mr Macron emphasised on the absolute necessity to prevent a re-emergence of the jihadist group Islamic State.
The French President said the troop pullout and Turkey's subsequent offensive against Kurds in the region have increased the
threat of an IS resurgence. The French presidential palace said in a statement that Mr Macron also held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi counterpart President Barham Saleh.
Paris and other European capitals are concerned that the IS members held by the Kurdish authorities could escape and take advantage of the chaos in the region to regroup.
