Germany has announced that Ukrainian forces can use German-sent weapons against military targets inside Russia, following a similar decision from the US. Berlin said, Ukraine can strike legitimate military targets inside Russia in accordance with international obligations.
Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said, the move was based on consensus among allies that Ukraine must be allowed to defend itself.
Earlier, US President Joe Biden’s administration has given Ukraine permission to strike certain areas inside Russia with US-provided weapons.
On the other hand, Russian
Security Council’s Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev warned that all their military equipment and specialists fighting against Russia will be destroyed. He alleged that Moscow proceeded from the fact that all long-range weapons supplied to Ukraine were already directly operated by servicemen from NATO countries.
Western leaders have hesitated to ease the restrictions on their weapons because of the risk it would provoke Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly warned that the West’s direct involvement could put the world on a path to nuclear conflict.
