Germany’s largest state, Bavaria, is going to ban the full-face Islamic veil in government offices, schools, universities and while driving because leaders believe it hinders with communication.
State Interior Minister, Joachim Herrmann, said: “Communication happens not only via language but also looks, facial expressions and gestures.”
The draft law, which was introduced on Tuesday, will ban the niqab and burqa
from public institutions and also when dealing with the police and at polling stations.
“Communication is the foundation of our interactions with each other and it's the basis of our free and democratic order. Concealing your face is at odds with this culture of communication.
“A culture of open communication with one another is part of the free and democratic understanding of Christian values,” added the minister.
