In a major setback for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) party, the Peshawar High Court on Wednesday (3rd January 2024) restored the Election Commission of Pakistan's order stripping the party of its iconic 'bat' electoral symbol. The Peshawar High Court restored the December 22nd order which had deemed the PTI's intra-party polls unconstitutional.
On December 22, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected PTI's
intra-party elections and deprived the party of its 'cricket bat' symbol. After that, the party challenged the verdict in the Peshawar High Court which on December 26th suspended the ECP's order. Later, the Election Commission challenged the High Court verdict.
Talking to reporters in Rawalpindi, PTI's Barrister Gohar Khan said his party would move the apex court after due deliberations.
