In the USA, the death toll from Hurricane Helene has risen to 183. Hundreds are still missing as a result of the storm across Southeastern states. In North Carolina, at least 90 people are known to have died. As power connections are being restored, 1.3 million people are still without power from Florida to Virginia.

he has directed the Defence Department to deploy up to 1,000 active-duty soldiers to reinforce the North Carolina National Guard, aiding in the delivery of supplies, food, and water to isolated communities. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, is visiting Georgia. Republican nominee Donald Trump also visited Georgia yesterday.
