The Pakistan Cabinet Secretariat issued a notification on Sunday, de-notifying Imran Khan as the Prime Minister with immediate effect, as per a report by Geo News.
The notification states that following the dissolution of National Assembly by the President of Pakistan, Imran Khan ceased to hold the office of the Prime Minister.
Imran Khan survived the Opposition’s attempt to oust him from power after a no-confidence motion against him was rejected by the National Assembly deputy speaker, who claimed it was a “foreign conspiracy”. Afterwards, Imran Khan said he had advised the President to dissolve the National Assembly.
Accordingly, the National Assembly has been dissolved and elections will take place in Pakistan within the
next 90 days, as per the government.
Meanwhile, the Opposition, which was was blindsided by the Deputy Speaker’s move, called the rejection of no-confidence motion “unconstitutional”. The Opposition moved the Supreme Court on Sunday, April 3, against the dissolution of the National Assembly.
Consequently, the three-member bench of Pakistan Supreme Court began hearing on the Opposition’s plea over dissolution of National Assembly on Sunday.
Pakistan's Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial noted that all orders and actions initiated by the prime minister and the President regarding the dissolution of the National Assembly will be subject to the court's order.
The Pakistan Supreme Court was adjourned till Monday.
