India has announced an immediate relief assistance of one million US dollars to support relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts to Papua New Guinea in the wake of devastating landslide. A massive landslide occurred on 24th of this month in Enga Province, Papua New Guinea which buried hundreds of people and caused major destruction and loss of life.
External Affairs Ministry in a statement said that India firmly stood by Papua New Guinea during times of difficulty
and devastation caused by natural disasters, as in the wake of the earthquake in 2018 and volcanic eruptions in 2019 and 2023. The Ministry added that Disaster Risk Reduction and Management is an important pillar of India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2019. India is committed to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief and continues to be a responsible and steadfast responder.
