The United States has said that India becoming a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) will strengthen international non-proliferation.
State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said in Washington that New Delhi has demonstrated to all MTCR partners a sustained commitment to non-proliferation.
She said India has a legally based, effective export control system that puts into
effect the MTCR guidelines and procedures, and administers and enforces such controls effectively.
Ms Trudeau told reporters at her daily news conference that all 34 current members, including the United States, agreed India met the standard required to become an MTCR member.
In a separate statement issued by the State Department, the US welcomed India's accession as the newest member of MTCR.
