India-born US Attorney Preet Bharara has agreed to remain a federal prosecutor at President-elect Donald Trump's request. Following a meeting with Mr Trump yesterday, Bharara told reporters He was summoned to discuss remaining in his position and had made up his mind to stay on.
He was appointed in
2009 by President Barack Obama. Bharara previously was chief counsel to New York Senator Chuck chumer, the incoming Senate Democratic leader.
He also played a leading role in the Senate Judiciary Committee's investigation into the firings of federal prosecutors under former President George W Bush.
