Outgoing US Defence Secretary,
Ashton Carter has said that India is destined to be a strategic partner of the
United States. Addressing an audience at Center for Strategic and International
Studies in Washington, Carter said, US have a number of programmes that is a
link to India's 'Make in India' initiative in the defence
sphere.
He said in defence ties, both the countries moved beyond a traditional
vendor-buyer relation into a phase of co-development and co-production. He said
by dint of corresponding systems of government, democracies, both countries are
quite diverse, vibrant, and innovative cultures in ways that are interestingly
aligned.
