The Indian consulate in Afghanistan's Mazar-i-Sharif city was attacked last night by unidentified gunmen, B. Sarkar, Consul General at the consulate said, all consulate personnel are safe.
The explosions and gunfire were heard at the compound when the attackers tried to storm the consulate building. The shooting lasted for 20 minutes. At least one civilian was reportedly injured in the shooting. Meanwhile, Ministry of
External Affairs in Delhi, said further details on the attack are awaited. The mission in the northern Afghan city is manned by three Indian personnel.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack which comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Afghan capital of Kabul on December 25th. During the visit, PM had inaugurated the new building for Afghan Parliament built by India.
