An Indonesian woman delivered a baby on board an Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta on Wednesday morning, officials said.
Following the medical emergency, the flight was diverted to Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the woman was rushed to the Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri east and is now recuperating with her newborn baby.
"Today's
Etihad Airways flight EY474 from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Jakarta (CGK) diverted to Mumbai (BOM) in India due to a medical emergency on board," an Etihad Airways spokesperson said in a statement.
"As a result of the diversion, the flight will be 2 hours delayed arriving into Jakarta. We regret any inconvenience caused. The safety of our guests and crew is Etihad Airways' highest priority," the statement added.
