Iran closes air, land borders with Iraq

Iran has closed its air and land borders with Iraq as fighting between rival Iraqi forces raged for a second day yesterday. Iranian state television cited unrest and curfew in Iraqi cities for the reason for the border closures. It also urged Iranians not to



go to Iraq.

The decision came as millions of Iranians were preparing to visit Iraq for annual pilgrimage to Shia sites. Kuwait also urged its citizens to leave the neighbouring country.
