Iran on Thursday said that it has successfully test-launched a ballistic missile with a range of around 2,000-km range. The missiles are capable of carrying 1,500 kg of warheads. The state news agency IRNA said the liquid-fuel missile had been named the Kheibar, a reference to a Jewish castle overrun by Muslim warriors in the early days of Islam.
Iran now claims that its
weapons can reach the bases of Israel and the United States. Despite opposition from the United States and European countries, Iran has maintained that it will continue to develop its defensive missile programme. Iranian Defence Minister Mohammadreza Ashtiani said in a message to the country's enemies that Iran will defend itself and its achievements.
