Iran says it holds US Navy veteran as prisoner

Iran has confirmed that it is holding a US Navy veteran as a prisoner. Foreign ministry yesterday said that former US Navy member Michael R. White was arrested some time ago and is being held at an Iranian prison. It added that US officials were immediately made aware of the arrest. The US State Department said it was



aware of reports of an American citizen's arrest in Iran. 

White is the first American known to be detained on foreign soil under President Donald Trump's administration. His detention adds new pressure to the rising tension between Iran and the US.
