An Israeli airstrike targeted a tunnel used to transport weapons from Syria to Hezbollah in Lebanon, according to regional security sources. The strike, which occurred late Sunday night, reportedly destroyed the tunnel and a weapons shipment bound for the Iran-backed militant group. The attack took place near the Syria-Lebanon border, an area frequently used by Hezbollah to move arms supplied by Iran. While Israel has not officially commented, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have repeatedly vowed to prevent Hezbollah from acquiring advanced weaponry. Syrian state media acknowledged “hostile activity” but did not specify the extent of the damage.

This airstrike is the latest in a series of Israeli attacks targeting Hezbollah’s supply routes and Iranian military installations in Syria. Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes in Syria over the years, aiming to disrupt Tehran’s influence in the region. According to intelligence sources, the targeted tunnel was used to smuggle missiles and other military equipment into Lebanon, bypassing conventional routes that are closely monitored by Israeli forces.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The Lebanese group

has intensified its activities along Israel’s northern border in recent months, exchanging fire with Israeli forces following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. In response, Israel has escalated its military operations, with officials warning of the possibility of a full-scale war with Hezbollah.

The strike also underscores growing concerns over Iran’s role in arming Hezbollah and other proxy groups. Iranian officials have denied direct involvement in weapons transfers, but Israel and Western intelligence agencies accuse Tehran of providing Hezbollah with drones, precision-guided missiles, and other advanced weaponry. Lebanese officials have not yet issued a statement on the attack, but past Israeli strikes in the country have been condemned as violations of Lebanese sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has yet to respond, though the group has previously vowed retaliation for Israeli aggression. With regional tensions at a boiling point, analysts warn that continued Israeli strikes in Syria and Lebanon could escalate the conflict further, raising the risk of a wider war involving Hezbollah and Iran-backed militias across the Middle East.
