January 2025 the warmest on record: Copernicus

January 2025 was the warmest January on record. According to the European Copernicus Climate Service, it surpassed the previous high in January last year by nearly 0.1 degree Celsius. Despite expectations for a slightly cooler month due to a shift away from the El Niño weather pattern, global



temperatures remained unusually high. 

While human-induced climate change driven by fossil fuel emissions is the primary cause of global warming, scientists are still investigating why last month was particularly hot.
