Lawmakers to elect interim Pak PM today

Pakistan's Parliament will today elect their interim Prime Minister to replace the ousted premier Nawaz Sharif. President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, this afternoon to elect the leader of the house.

Separately, the National Assembly Secretariat has announced schedule for election of the new prime minister.Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated Shahid

Khaqan Abbasi as prime minister for now, but later he would make way for Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister.A meeting



between the opposition members yesterday ended without the parties' consensus on a single candidate for the Prime Minister's post. 

Meanwhile, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League party, PML-N, has said that it will file a review petition against the disqualification of its leader and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif next week.

Supreme Court on Friday last week disqualified 67-year-old Sharif for dishonesty and ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal.
