A critical incident unfolded near a Tube station in northeast London as reports emerged of a man wielding a sword and launching attacks on members of the public and police officers. The suspect, armed with a sword, reportedly crashed a vehicle into a house on Thurlow Gardens before engaging in multiple stabbings, as per police reports.
The 36-year-old suspect allegedly assaulted civilians and two police officers before being apprehended. Authorities have stated that the incident is not being treated as terror-related.
Emergency services, including fire and rescue teams and numerous ambulances, swiftly responded to the scene. The condition of those injured remains undisclosed, and authorities have confirmed that no additional suspects are being sought.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan conveyed, "This must have been a terrifying incident for those involved.
I know the wider community will be feeling shock and alarm. People will want to know what has happened, and we will provide more information as soon as possible."
Adelekan reassured, "We are not pursuing more suspects. This incident does not appear to be terror-related."
British Home Secretary James Cleverly stated that he is being regularly briefed on the situation. "I am being regularly updated about the incident at Hainault Station this morning. My thoughts are with those who have been affected, and thank you to the emergency responders," he conveyed. "I would urge people not to speculate or share footage online and provide relevant information to the police."
In response to the incident, Hainault Tube station in Ilford has been temporarily closed by police. "Hainault underground station is closed due to a police investigation in the area," Transport for London announced.
