In Argentina, a man attempted to shoot Vice President Cristina Kirchner near her home in Buenos Aires yesterday. Ms. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was greeting supporters outside her home when a man emerged from the crowd and pointed a handgun in her face.
President Alberto Fernandez said, the gun was loaded with five bullets but failed to fire when triggered. The
assailant, who authorities identified as a 35-year-old man of Brazilian origin, was quickly arrested and the weapon was seized.
Argentina's Security Minister Anibal Fernandez said, that Police would open an investigation. According to local media, the attack underscores rising political tension in Argentina and around the region.
