TALLINN - Estonian border guards discovered a man in the early hours of Friday who tried to swim across Narva River to Estonia.

A radar observer of the Narva border guard base detected a person at 12:57 a.m. in Narva River swimming from Russia to Estonia, the East prefecture said. Narva-Joesuu boat patrol fished the man in danger of drowning out of the river and took him to the Narva-Joesuu station. The man's medical condition was good and he did not need medical aid.

The man had no

documents with him, but said he is an Egyptian citizen. He spoke some Russian. A misdemeanor procedure was carried out since the man had illegally crossed the temporary border line, after which he was handed over to Russian authorities.

Narva River is in some places dangerous due to strong currents.

This year so far 12 illegal migration cases have been detected between border crossing points on the eastern border and border guard officials have detained 38 people.
