United States: A 20-year-old man from Iowa, USA, clapped 1,140 times in a minute to break the Guinness World Record of 1,103 claps previously held by Eli Bishop. Speed clapper Dalton Meyer said a Youtube video of Kate French, once the fastest clapper in the world, sparked his interest in speed clapping.

"It came naturally to me, it was like I didn't even have to practice," Meyer told Davenport-based Quad-City Times. "Really, I just for some reason knew how to do it," he said of the record for "most claps in a minute".

For his official Guinness World Record attempt, Meyer said he used the wrist clapping technique developed by Bishop, the previous record holder at 1,103 claps in one minute.

Wrist clapping refers to slapping the palm of the other hand using the wrists and fingers.

For

good measure
Charm Media Group, of Illinois, facilitated Meyer’s bid for the Guinness World Records with photography equipment to ensure it was properly recorded in both real-time and slow-motion.

He worked with the company to make sure the attempt was filmed in proper audio, so his 19-claps-per-second could be counted and verified by Guinness.

The speed clapper said he staged the attempt way back in March but didn’t hear back from the record-keeping organisation until Halloween.

Another unusual record
In September, a 14-year-old girl put 22 socks on one foot in 30 seconds to achieve a Guinness World Record title.

Alberta teen Carolena Kruse surpassed Aarif Ibn Abdul Halim of India, who set the previous record of 19 socks in May.
