Massive power cut in Tokyo, Japan

Wed 23 Mar 2022, 10:16:57
Tokyo: In Japan, parts of the Tokyo region hit by massive power cut as a massive earthquake last week forced several power plants to stop operating.

The  government issued its first-ever electricity supply warning and called on consumers to conserve energy .

To ease the power crunch amid unseasonably cold conditions in eastern Japan, Tokyo Electric Power Co (Tepco) said it would receive up to 1.42

million kilowatts of electricity from seven regional utilities.

The magnitude-7.4 earthquake off the coast of Fukushima last week killed four people and injured more than 230 others. Tokyo's Haneda International Airport has partially turned off lights and air-conditioning at terminals. Amusement parks and some companies in the region also switched to their backup generators to help in the conservation efforts.
