Mauritius Vice- President Paramasivum Pillay ‘Barlen’ Vyapoory on Tuesday said his country maintains very strong relationships with India.
Speaking to media after having a darshan of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala on Tuesday, he said several of the ongoing projects in that country had been taken up with the technical and financial assistance from India.
“The ties between the two countries have been bolstered with the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the island
nation in 2015. This year, President Ramnath Kovind will attend the 50th Independence day celebrations of our country as chief guest,” he said.
Mr. Vyapoory said majority of the population in his country were of Indian origin. They celebrate several Indian festivals such as Deepavali, Ugadi, Ganesh Chaturthi and the like. The Republic of Mauritius has declared a national holiday on the days of these festivals. “Any one visiting our country will feel like he is in India,” he said.
