In Pakistan, the National Assembly Secretariat has announced the timetable for the prime ministerial election to be held on Sunday. Newly sworn-in Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) will elect a new Prime Minister. Candidates can submit nomination papers by tomorrow. Shehbaz Sharif is nominated by PML-N, PPP, and allies, while Omar Ayub is backed by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).
The 16th National Assembly convened with
MNAs taking oaths administered by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf amid disruptions. SIC intends to nominate its candidate, aligning with PTI-backed independent members.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif nominated Shehbaz Sharif for PM, and Maryam Nawaz for Punjab's chief minister. This election marks a critical moment in Pakistan's political landscape as parties vie for leadership roles.
