A New York jury court has ordered Donald Trump to pay 83.3 million Dollar for defaming, writer E Jean Carroll. He defamed the former columnist for Elle magazine in 2019 while he was US president. The jury of seven men and two women awarded Ms Carroll, 18.3 million Dollar in compensatory damages and 65 million Dollar in punitive damages.
Ms Carroll had accused Trump of forcing himself on her in 1996 following a chance
encounter at a New York department store. To this Mr.Trump denied the allegations and accused Carroll of being a con job who was soughting to boost the sales of her memoir.
Mr Trump was found guilty of having defamed Ms Carroll and sexually assaulted earlier. In response to the court order he has vowed to appeal the latest ruling, calling the case a witch hunt.
