OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and his partner Oliver Mulherin will be donating the majority of their wealth to charity. They signed the Giving Pledge, a charitable foundation founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. The Giving pledge, founded in 2010, invites wealthy people to share the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
The Pledge letter, dated May 18, Sam Altman and Oliver Mulherin expressed their gratitude. "We would not be making this pledge if it weren’t for the hard work, brilliance, generosity, and dedication to improve the world of
many people that built the scaffolding of society that let us get here.
There is nothing we can do except feel immense gratitude and commit to pay it forward, and do what we can to build the scaffolding up a little higher," they wrote. The couple intend to focus their giving on supporting technology which would create abundance for people. Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Larry Ellison, MacKenzie Scott, Reid Hoffman, Azim Premji are some of the signatories of the Giving Pledge.
