In Cuba, more than 100 people have died after a Boeing 737 airliner crashed near Jose Marti International Airport in Havana. A Cuban-operated airliner with at least 110 people aboard crashed and burned in a cassava field just after takeoff from the airport yesterday.
According to state media, three people have survived but are in a critical condition. Airport sources said the
jetliner was heading from the capital of Havana to the eastern city of Holguin.
The cause of the disaster was under investigation. Authorities said there were 104 passengers and nine crew members on the flight, operated by Cubana, the state airline. Four crash survivors were taken to a Havana hospital, and three remained alive.
