A 19-year-old Emirati man succumbed to injuries and fractures he received after the motorbike he was riding turned over several times in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
A senior police officer said that the mishap took place early on Wednesday. "The young man could not make it because of the terrible impact of the accident in which the motorbike was totally destroyed."
Brigadier Hassan Ibrahim, deputy director general of the central operations room of the RAK police, said that they were alerted about the accident around 4am before the Fajr prayer.
"The room, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in a record time."
Initial enactment of the accident showed that the young man was riding his motorbike alone, he added.
"He suddenly lost control over the bike, veered off the road, rammed into the middle island of the road, a sand hill, and finally bumped into a lamp post."
The young man sustained gruesome injuries and fractures all over his body, particularly in the head, and bled excessively, Brig.
Ibrahim said.
"Urgent first aids were provided to the victim who was in a seriously unstable condition immediately and was rushed then to the intensive care unit of the Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital."
Unfortunately, the young man could not make it, and died shortly after being admitted to the hospital due to the impact of the accident, he explained.
"The case file has been referred to the RAK traffic prosecution for taking the legal procedures it deemed fit, while the corpse of the victim was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives."
Brig. Ibrahim said all drivers and motorbikers in particular need to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations, mainly speed limit. "Failing to comply with the due safety procedures while riding a motorbike is life threatening, and many young people were killed in similar road accidents."
The RAK police, few days back impounded 337 motorbikes for flouting traffic rules, mostly roaring by night, speeding through city streets and rocketing along thoroughfares. "Most of the motorbikes seized were unregistered or ridden by unlicensed young men."
