Palestinian leaders, along with regional leaders from countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, have rejected US President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to have the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip, calling it a violation of Palestinian rights and international law.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas emphasized that legitimate Palestinian rights are non-negotiable and that
the proposal will constitute a serious violation of international law. It comes two weeks after the start of a fragile ceasefire in Gaza, during which Hamas has released some Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Earlier, Mr. Trump proposed to have the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip and resettle its Palestinian residents.
