Passenger Plane from China skids off Manila runway

In the Philippines, a Boeing passenger plane from China skidded off a runway while landing in a downpour at Manila's airport and its 157 passengers and eight crew members were evacuated on an emergency slide. Officials said all the passengers and crew of Xiamen Air flight were



safe. 

A spokesman of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said the B737 aircraft veered off the runway around midnight into a grassy area. The airport's international runway is expected to be closed until about noon today.
