Male, Maldives: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the Maldives for his first official abroad outing since being chosen to office for a second term.
It's the principal visit by an Indian Prime Minister toward the South Asian archipelago country in eight years.
Modi is meeting Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday evening. He's at that point booked to address the Maldives'
Parliament.
In a Twitter message not long after in the wake of arriving in the Maldives, Modi said his visit "shows the significance India connects to solid ties with the Republic of Maldives and the craving to support collaboration in different circles."
India had been worried about previous Maldivian President Yameen Abdul Gayoom's inclining toward China, which is looking for impact in the Indian Ocean.
