Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday received a phone call from United States President Joe Biden and discussed the ongoing crisis in countries like Bangladesh and Ukraine, among other things.

The Prime Minister said that he had a telephonic conversation with Joe Biden and detailed exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine.

While discussing the situation in Ukraine, PM Modi briefed Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine. The Prime Minister reiterated India's consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for early return of peace and stability in the war-torn country.

"Spoke to @POTUS @JoeBiden on phone today. We had a detailed exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including the situation in Ukraine. I reiterated India’s full support for early return of peace and stability," PM Modi posted on X.

During his whirlwind 7-hour visit to Ukraine last week, PM Modi met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and said that both Kyiv and Moscow should sit together without wasting

time to end the ongoing war and that India was ready to play an "active role" to restore peace in the region.

Further in his conversation with Biden, the Prime Minister also expressed concern over the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh and stressed the need for an early restoration of normalcy in the neighbouring country.

The two world leaders also deliberated on the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh as the country continues to witness violent clashes after the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

"We also discussed the situation in Bangladesh and stressed on the need for early restoration of normalcy, and ensuring the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh," PM Modi said.

Muhammad Yunus, 84, was appointed as the Chief Adviser - a position equivalent to the Prime Minister – of an interim government on August 8 following the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, who resigned and fled to India amid massive protests against her government over controversial job quota system.
